About the Products
What is the best walnut butter in India?

Faim Farms makes India's finest walnut butter using single-origin Kagzi Walnuts from Kupwara, Kashmir, stone-ground for 24 continuous hours with no palm oil, no preservatives, and no artificial ingredients. It is available on Amazon India and faimfarms.com with pan-India delivery. Faim Farms is a DPIIT recognised startup and JK Startup certified brand.

Is walnut butter better than peanut butter?

Walnut butter is nutritionally superior to peanut butter in several ways. Walnut kernel is by far the richest tree nut source of plant-based ALA Omega-3 — roughly 2.5g per 28g, against about 0.3g for pecans, the next highest. Our Walnut Butter is 75% walnut, so 28g of the jar carries about 1.9g; the Unsweetened, at 85%, about 2.1g. Peanuts contain effectively none. Walnut butter is also richer in polyphenols, Vitamin E, and heart-healthy polyunsaturated fats. Faim Farms Walnut Butter is 75% Kagzi Walnuts from Kashmir with a declared portion of roasted peanut, and no palm oil or added oils. If you want no added sugar, our Unsweetened Walnut Butter is 85% Kagzi walnuts — the highest walnut content in the range.

Peanut butter is higher in protein and generally lower in price. If you want a product that bridges both, Faim Farms Nutta is a blend of roasted peanuts (70%) and Kashmiri Kagzi walnuts (12%). It is peanut-led, so it carries peanut butter's protein and price rather than walnut butter's omega-3 — the honest way to describe it is a peanut butter with a real walnut lift.

What does walnut butter taste like?

Kashmiri walnut butter has a rich, earthy, slightly sweet flavour with less bitterness than conventional walnut butter. The Kagzi walnut variety — native to the Kashmir Valley — has a naturally sweeter, less astringent flavour profile. Stone-grinding for 24 hours produces a smooth, creamy texture with a deep nuttiness. It's nothing like peanut butter in flavour; it's more complex, more luxurious, and more interesting.

Which is the healthiest nut butter in India?

Walnut butter leads every other nut butter on Omega-3 by a wide margin, which is the strongest single nutritional argument for it. Almond butter leads on Vitamin E and calcium, and peanut butter on protein — so "healthiest" depends on what you need. Faim Farms Walnut Butter is 75–85% Kashmiri Kagzi Walnuts with a declared portion of roasted peanut, no added oils, no palm oil, no soy and no preservatives — among the cleanest and most nutritionally dense nut butters available in India. It is naturally vegan, gluten-free, and contains no refined white sugar. If you want a jar with no added sugar, choose our Unsweetened Walnut Butter — 85% Kagzi walnuts, the highest in the range.

What are Kagzi Walnuts and why are they different?

Kagzi walnuts are a specific variety of walnut native to the Kashmir Valley. The name "Kagzi" (meaning paper-thin in Urdu) refers to the shell — so thin it can be cracked with your fingers. This thin shell means more of the tree's energy goes into the kernel itself, producing a sweeter, less astringent walnut with a higher kernel-to-shell ratio and high oil content — and since ALA sits in the oil fraction, oil content is what matters nutritionally.

Walnuts also grow in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, but the Kagzi variety is most strongly associated with the Kashmir Valley, where altitude and cold nights during kernel fill favour high oil content.

Why does my jar have oil floating on top?

This is completely normal — and actually a good sign. Natural nut butters without stabilisers or added oils will separate over time, with the natural oils rising to the surface. This is what real, unprocessed nut butter looks like.

Simply stir the jar before use until the oil is fully incorporated. After that, store it upside-down in the fridge to reduce future separation.

Are your products vegan and gluten-free?

Yes, all Faim Farms products are 100% vegan and naturally gluten-free. Our ingredient lists are short and fully declared — nuts, cacao in the chocolate range, and a small amount of sweetener in the sweetened jars. There are no dairy, gluten, or animal-derived ingredients of any kind.

Our processing unit handles only nuts and cacao, so cross-contamination with gluten or dairy is extremely unlikely — however, we are not certified gluten-free, so those with severe coeliac disease should exercise caution.

How much sugar is in the chocolate range?

Zero refined sugar. Our chocolate products use cacao powder (not chocolate chips or compound chocolate) and a very small amount of coconut sugar or dates for balance — always declared on the label. The total added sugar per serving is typically under 2g.

There is no refined white sugar, high-fructose corn syrup, or artificial sweetener in any Faim Farms product.

What is the difference between Nutta and Walnut Butter?

Walnut Butter is built on Kagzi Walnuts alone — no peanuts in the jar. It's our most premium product — richer in Omega-3, more complex in flavour, and higher in price. It's for people who want the full, unadulterated walnut experience.

Nutta is a blend of Kashmiri Walnuts + roasted peanuts. It's our most approachable product — lighter in flavour, similar in texture to conventional peanut butter, and a great gateway to Faim Farms. If you're new to us, start with Nutta.

Health & Nutrition
What are the benefits of walnut butter?

Walnut kernel is the richest tree nut source of plant-based ALA Omega-3, at roughly 2.5g per 28g — which works out at about 1.9g per 28g of our Walnut Butter, since the jar is 75% walnut. ALA intake has been associated with cardiovascular benefit in large studies, though these are associations rather than proof of causation. Walnut butter also delivers polyphenols (especially ellagic acid), Vitamin E, magnesium, and healthy polyunsaturated fats, all in a spreadable form that's easy to eat daily.

Because our walnut butter is cold stone-ground rather than heat-processed, these heat-sensitive nutrients survive intact. A 30g serving (about 2 tablespoons) of our Walnut Butter carries roughly 2g of ALA — close to what you would get from a small handful of walnuts.

How much walnut butter should I eat per day?

Nutrition guidance for whole walnuts is about 28–30g a day (a small handful) — which translates to roughly 2 tablespoons (30g) of walnut butter. That's enough to get the Omega-3 and polyphenol benefits without overdoing calories, since walnut butter is energy-dense at around 196 kcal per serving.

A 480g jar at this rate lasts about two weeks of daily use.

Is walnut butter good for weight loss?

It can support weight management when eaten in sensible portions. The combination of fat, protein, and fibre in walnuts is satiating — a tablespoon on morning toast or in a smoothie keeps you full longer than refined-carb breakfasts, which helps reduce snacking. Research also suggests not all the calories in walnuts are fully absorbed by the body.

That said, it is calorie-dense, so portion control matters: stick to 1–2 tablespoons per day. Choose our Unsweetened Walnut Butter if you're tracking sugar intake — it contains nothing but walnuts.

Is walnut butter good for the brain?

Walnuts have been called "brain food" for good reason — and not just because they look like one. They are rich in ALA Omega-3 and polyphenols, both of which are actively studied for their role in supporting cognitive function and protecting brain cells from oxidative stress. Several published studies associate regular walnut consumption with better memory and cognitive performance.

We'll be honest: walnut butter is a food, not a medicine. But if you want a daily, realistic way to get walnuts into your diet — and your kids' — a spoon of walnut butter is far easier than convincing anyone to eat plain walnuts every day.

Can diabetics eat walnut butter?

Walnuts themselves are low in carbohydrates and have a minimal effect on blood sugar, and studies suggest nuts can be a useful part of a diabetic diet. Our Unsweetened Walnut Butter contains only walnuts — zero added sugar — making it the appropriate choice if you're managing blood sugar.

Our sweetened range contains a small amount of sugar (declared on the label), so check the ingredients tab on each product page. As with any dietary change for a medical condition, please confirm with your doctor or dietitian.

Is walnut butter safe during pregnancy and for kids?

Walnuts are a valued source of Omega-3 during pregnancy, when ALA contributes to the baby's brain development — many doctors actively recommend them. Our walnut butter contains no preservatives, palm oil, or artificial ingredients, and is made in an FSSAI-licensed facility.

For children, walnut butter is a nutrient-dense addition to toast, rotis, or milk from around 1 year of age, provided there is no nut allergy in the family. Introduce a small amount first and watch for any reaction. For babies under 1 or any allergy concerns, consult your paediatrician before introducing tree nuts.

How do I eat walnut butter? What goes well with it?

Anywhere you'd use peanut butter, and a few places you wouldn't:

Toast or paratha — spread with a drizzle of honey or sliced banana
Smoothies — a tablespoon adds creaminess and Omega-3
Oats and porridge — stir in just before serving
Kahwa pairing — walnut butter toast with Kashmiri kahwa is our office breakfast
Baking — swap into cookie or brownie recipes for a deeper, earthier flavour
Savoury — whisk with soy, garlic, and lime for a noodle sauce, or thin with water for a salad dressing
Straight off the spoon — no judgement, it's how most of our customers finish the jar

Walnut butter vs almond butter — which is healthier?

They're both good; they're good at different things. Almond butter leads on Vitamin E, calcium, and fibre. Walnut butter wins decisively on Omega-3 — almonds contain almost none, while walnuts are the richest plant source among nuts. Walnuts also bring more polyphenol antioxidants.

If your diet already lacks Omega-3 (true for most vegetarian Indian diets, which have no fish), walnut butter fills a gap almond butter simply can't. Many of our customers use both: almond or peanut butter for protein, walnut butter for Omega-3.

Why is walnut butter more expensive than peanut butter?

Raw material. Peanuts cost a fraction of what walnuts do — quality Kashmiri walnut kernels sell for 8–10× the price of peanuts, and the Kagzi variety we use commands a premium even within Kashmir. A 480g jar of our walnut butter is 75% Kagzi walnut — roughly 360g of walnut kernel, with roasted peanut, a little sugar and salt making up the rest. There is no palm oil, no hydrogenated fat and no cheap filler oil bringing the cost down, which is exactly how most brands keep nut butters under ₹300.

If you want the walnut experience at a friendlier price, NUTTA — our walnut-peanut blend — was created precisely for this.

Are there any side effects of walnut butter?

For most people, none at sensible portions. The things worth knowing: walnuts are a tree nut allergen — avoid completely if you have a tree nut allergy, and our blends also contain peanuts. Eating far beyond the recommended 2 tablespoons daily can cause digestive discomfort simply because of the fat content, and the calories add up. If you take blood-thinning medication or have a kidney stone history, check with your doctor, as with any nut-rich food.

Sourcing & Quality
Where exactly do your walnuts come from?

Our Kagzi Walnuts are sourced from 15+ family orchards in Kupwara, a district in northern Jammu & Kashmir, situated at approximately 1800m above sea level. We have direct contracts with each orchard and pay a fixed premium above market rate.

We visit the orchards annually during the October harvest and maintain year-round contact with each farming family.

How are your products made?

After harvesting in October, walnuts are hand-sorted to remove any damaged or rancid kernels. They are then cold stone-ground for 24 continuous hours in granite stone mills — no heat is applied at any stage. This preserves all heat-sensitive nutrients including Omega-3 fatty acids, Vitamin E, and polyphenols.

The finished butter is transferred to glass jars and sealed within 10 minutes of grinding. Jars are nitrogen-flushed before sealing to displace oxygen and extend shelf life without preservatives.

Do you use any palm oil?

Never. Palm oil is the single biggest ingredient we object to in mainstream nut butters. It is added to prevent separation (which natural nut butters do), but it adds saturated fat, contributes to deforestation, and masks the real flavour of the nut.

Our products contain zero palm oil, zero hydrogenated fats, and zero added oils of any kind.

Storage & Shelf Life
How should I store my Faim Farms product?

Sealed jar: Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Room temperature is fine. Shelf life is 6 months from the date on the bottom of the jar.

After opening: Refrigerate and consume within 3 months. Stir before each use. Storing the jar upside-down in the fridge helps reduce oil separation.

Saffron: Store in an airtight container in a cool, dark place. Avoid humidity. Shelf life is 2 years if stored correctly.

Can I freeze nut butter?

Yes. Nut butter freezes well for up to 6 months. Thaw at room temperature and stir before use. Freezing does not affect nutritional quality.

About Our Saffron
What is Grade A (tip-only) saffron?

Saffron stigmas (the red threads) have three parts: the style (stem), the stigma body, and the tip. Grade A (tip-only) refers to saffron made exclusively from the deepest-red stigma tips — the most potent, most aromatic, and most colourful part of the thread. It commands the highest price and is considered the finest grade in the world.

Lower grades include the full thread including the yellow style, which dilutes both colour and flavour. Our saffron is tip-only.

How much saffron do I use per serving?

A little goes a very long way. For reference from a 1g jar:

• Kesar chai: 5–7 strands per cup (approx. 20 cups per gram)
• Biryani (serves 4): 1/4 teaspoon bloomed in warm milk
• Warm milk: 3–4 strands per glass
• Kheer or desserts: 8–10 strands per serving

Pro tip: Always bloom saffron in 2 tablespoons of warm (not boiling) water or milk for 10–15 minutes before adding to your dish. This activates the colour and flavour compounds.

How can I tell if saffron is genuine?

Place 2–3 strands in cold water. Genuine saffron will slowly release a golden-yellow colour over 10–15 minutes. Fake saffron releases colour immediately and turns the water bright red. Our saffron comes from Pampore — the only region in India whose saffron holds Geographical Indication (GI) status. We offer a GI-certified jar with certification papers as a separate option; WhatsApp us to arrange it.
